in the annual plant sale this weekend 10 & 11 May 11am - 4pm
Plants are for sale
through the stable shop throughout the season but once a year the garden team
empty the nursery from the stock they’ve been caring for over the winter. It’s
a good time to pick up a bargain but also a plant that you might have admired
growing in the borders from your last visit. Many of the plants on sale are
herbaceous perennials and will give repeated flower year after year. There will
be volunteers and gardeners on the day to help with any green fingered
questions.
Tom Longridge,
gardener said “After lifting and dividing plants over the winter season, the
borders have been revitalised for spring and we have plenty of surplus plants,
many from the double borders including primulas and peonies”
Beningbrough is
blooming at this time of year. There are displays of apple and pear blossom in
the walled garden including the pear arch and alliums are just starting to open.
The cherry trees are beginning to create a lawn of confetti and bluebells
carpet the woodland near the pike pond at the exit of the property in the
parkland. Spring is one of the most spectacular times to visit, all the more
because the bulbs and blossom can be all too fleeting depending on the weather
conditions.
Normal admission fees apply, plus the cost of any plants purchased. Current
opening times: Tuesday-Sunday 11am - 5pm plus Bank Holiday Mondays, with Royals: then and now portrait display
currently on show. Visit the website for full details.
