Whats new in the wilderness playground?

The Wilderness playground is an unmissable part of a family day out at Beningbrough and is extremely popular with our younger visitors. Whether they want to sail the seven seas, gallop away on an adventure or defend their fort from invaders, there is plenty here to inspire an active imagination.

If you visit over the next few weeks you may notice that some changes are taking place, with some sections of the playground closed off.  But do not panic! This will only affect small parts of the playground and the work that is taking place is part of an ongoing process as we make some exciting improvements to the play area. Over the course of summer 2013 we will be extending and developing the wilderness playground to make it wilder and more adventurous than ever before.  We asked some parents and children what they would make the playground even more special and took their advice to add extra features area which will stand the test of time.

Although this means that some of the older features will be removed, they will be replaced with new and exciting equipment to explore. Working with Pennine Playgrounds, we look forward to bringing you this 'clamberstack' to scramble about on...

With den building being one of the most popular '50 things to do before you're 11 and 3/4', the new wilderness playground will also include and area specially designed for constructing the perfect secret den. ith the tools and basic frameworks provided kids can get creative and make a new den every time they visit.

Don’t forget that there is plenty to do here for families whatever weather the great British summer throws at us. Our series of National Portrait Gallery interactive exhibitions are family friendly, encouraging children to discover the artwork through a range of fun activities. Children can dress up as a Georgian, play at being an artisit and put themselves into the portraits using our interactive computers. For children who love cutting, sticking, making and decorating we host a range of Artrageous worshops throughout the year, all of which allow children to get creative and try something new.
